Professor GL Ada was Chairman of the Vaccine Working Group, National Centre in HIV Epidemiology and Clinical Research

Dr NG Ardlie was a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Sydney and served as a member of the Elective Term Committee and the Haematology Block Committee of the Canberra Clinical School. He also served on the Funds Advisory Committee for The Canberra Region Medical Foundation Limited. He was a member of the Australian Steering Committee for tracking medical pedigrees with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, and a member of the Oncology Executive Group at The Canberra Hospital

Dr R Baker was the Chairman of the Organising Committee for the 20th Annual Conference on the Organisation and Expression of the Genome, Lorne, Victoria, 1998, and a member of the Board of Directors of Genome Inc

Professor RV Blanden served as a member of the Editorial Board of Immunology and Cell Biology. He is a member of the Medical and Research Advisory Board of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society of Australia, the Chair of the Research Advisory Committee of the National Centre in HIV Virology Research and the assignment panel of the NH & MRC He was the ANU representative on the Board of the CRC for Biological Control of Vertebrate Pest Populations at all meetings of the Board during 1998

Professor P Board acted as an Editorial Advisor for the Biochemical Journal

Dr IA Clark served as the Federal Secretary of the National Association of NHMRC Research Fellows, was a member of the NHMRC Grantnet Users Representitive Group, and a member of the Grantnet Management Committee. He also served on the Editorial Boards of Experimental Parasitology and International Journal for Parasitology

Dr P Cooper served as Public Officer for the Australian Cancer Society and the Clinical Oncological Society of Australia

Professor G Cox served as a member of the Academy of Science Lemburg Travelling Fellowship Committee, Bede Morris Fellowship Committee, and Gottschalk Medal Committee. He was a member of the ARC Biological Sciences Steering Committee

Professor DR Curtis continued as a Member of the Research Advisory Board of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society of AustraliA He chaired the University's Howard Florey Fellowship Committee, and remained a member of the Editorial Board of Synapse, the Board of Co-Editors of Experimental Brain Research and as an International Adviser of the Chinese Journal of Physiological Sciences

Professor A F Dulhunty was a member of council for the Australian Physiological and Pharmacological Society

Dr S Easteal was the Editor of Molecular Biology and Evolution Until July 1998 he was also an Associate Editor for Molecular Biology and Evolution and The Journal of Molecular Evolution. He served on the Advisory Committee of the NH&MRC Social Psychiatry Research Unit

Professor P W Gage was a member of the Editorial Committee of Physiological Reviews, Journal of Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology, and the Grants Allocation Committee of the Motor Neurone Disease Research Institute of Australia

Professor CC Goodnow served on the Editorial Boards of The Journal of Experimental Medicine, Immunological Reviews and of Current Biology. In 1998, Prof Goodnow served the NIH and NCI at planning meetings in Washington DC on Mouse Genome Resources and on Cancer Modifier Gene Resources. He was on the Program Committee for the American Association of Immunologists, and was a member of the Scientific Advisory Boards of the Australian Genome Research Facility and of Illumina, Inc, and of the Appointments and Promotions Committee of the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute

Dr J Gready was ACT Representative on the Council of the Australian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) and convenor and symposium organizer of the ASBMB Bioinformatics Special Interest Group. She was also a Board Member of the Australian Genomics Information Centre

Dr AJ Hapel was appointed as a member of the local organising committee for the Year 2000 International Conference on Dendritic Cells, Port Arthur, Q'ld

Professor IA Hendry was a science advisor on the board of the Wenkart Foundation. He was a member of the John James Memorial Ethics Committee and a member of the editorial boards of Journal of Neuroscience Research and International Journal of Developmental Neuroscience

Dr CE Hill has been Treasurer of the Australian Physiological and Pharmacological Society from September 1994 to September 1998

Dr M Kohonen-Corish was a Member of the Organising Committee for the 2nd Australian Workshop on Cancer Gene Analysis and Mutation Detection, Melbourne July 1998

Professor K Lafferty has served on the Board of the National Sciences Centre and the Canberra Region Medical Foundation and was a member of the Immunology of Diabetes Society Executive Council

Dr KI Matthaei acted as a Consultant for the Australian Quarantine Inspection Service

Dr P McCullagh has continued to serve as President of the National Brain Injury Foundation. He has been reappointed to the Australian Health Ethics Committee. He served on the working group which produced the advice to the Minister for Health on Scientific, Ethical and Regulatory Considerations Relevant to Cloning of Human Beings. Also a member of the working group revising the NHMRC Statement on Ethical Conduct in Research Involving Humans. He has continued to act as an honorary medical adviser to the Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia, Legacy and the Returned and Services League of Australia

Dr C Parish acted as the Editor-in-Chief of Immunology and Cell Biology

Professor IA Ramshaw was a member of the Working Party Group on Immune-Based Therapies for HIV; an Editorial Board member of Viral Immunology , and Microbes and Infection ; a member of the Australian Drug Evaluation Sub-Committee, and ACT Science and Technology Council

Professor SJ Redman served on the Editorial Boards of Journal of Neurophysiology, Neuroscience, Journal of Neuroscience Methods, Neuroreport, Trends in Neuroscience, Journal of Computational Neuroscience, European Journal of Neuroscience, Journal of Clinical Neuroscience, Synapse and Clinical & Experimental Pharmacology & Physiology. He was on a program grant review committee for the New Zealand Health Research Council. He was on the Council of the Australian Academy of Science and was a Member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Prince of Wales Medical Research Institute. He served on the Executive Committee for IBRO, and was a member of the Program Committee for the IBRO conference to be held in Jerusalem in 1999
