He was also a Member of the Executive Committee of the International Eosinophil Society and of the Working group for the Basic Science Section of the International College of Allergy and Clinical Immunology 2000 Congress.

Professor G Cox served as a member of the Academy of Science Lemburg Travelling Fellowship Committee. He was a member of the ARC Biological Sciences Steering Committee

Professor AF Dulhunty was a member of council for the Australian Physiological and Pharmacological Society

Dr J Gready was convenor and symposium organizer of the Australian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Bioinformatics Special Interest Group


Professor PW Gage was a member of the Editorial Committee of Physiological Reviews, Journal of Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology, and the Scientific Board of the Motor Neurone Disease Research Institute of Australia. He has also been elected President of the Australian Physiological and Pharmacological Society.

Dr DA Jans was a lecturer for the Graduate course BC3020 "Advanced Cell Biology" (Guest lecturer in 1999 - 5 hours of lectures and 8 hours practicals, plus prac report and exam marking) at James Cook University (Townsville - Biochemistry Dept) He served on the Joint Commission for the Selection of Candidates for Italian Government Scholarships

Dr PD Jeffrey is the Institute of Advanced Studies representative on the Vice Chancellor's Outreach and Reference Committee. He has served for several years on the Advisory Council of the Australian Science Festival and is a Member of the Canberra Cancerians' Committee

Dr MF Shannon served as a member of the NHMRC Regional Grants Interviewing Committee (RGIC) and Pharmaceutical Sub Committee of Australian Drug Evaluation Committee.

Dr D Tremethick was an invited analyst for Chemtract, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

Professor IG Young was an editor of the journal DNA Sequence. He acted as consultant to Boehringer-Ingelheim and Westmead Hospital (Switch Factor Project) and was a Member of the Biological Defence Advisory Committee.

Division of Immunology and Cell Biology

Professor GL Ada was Chairman of the Vaccine Working Group, National Centre in HIV Epidemiology and Clinical Research, Sydney. He was a member of the Australian Influenza Vaccine Committee.

Professor RV Blanden served as a member of the Editorial Boards of Immunology and Cell Biology, and the Asia-Pacific Journal of Biotechnology . He was Chair of the Research Advisory Committee of the National Centre in HIV Virology Research and a member of the Immunology Disciplines panel of the NH & MRC. He was the ANU representative on the Board of the CRC for Pest Animal Control.

Dr IA Clark served as the Federal Secretary of the National Association of NHMRC Research Fellows, was a member of the NHMRC Grantnet Users Representitive Group, and a member of the NHMRC Grantnet Management Committee. He also served on the Editorial Boards of Experimental Parasitology, and International Journal for Parasitology

Dr P Cooper served as Public Officer for the Australian Cancer Society and the Clinical Oncological Society of Australia, and acted as a Consultant for ANUTECH

Dr AJ Hapel was a member of the local organising committee for the Year 2000 Sixth International Conference on Dendritic Cells, Port Douglas, Q'ld.

Professor C Parish acted as the Editor-in-Chief of Immunology and Cell Biology and served on the Medical Research Advisory Committee of the Australian Cancer Research Foundation.

Professor IA Ramshaw was a member of the Australian Drug Evaluation Sub-Committee, ACT Science and Technology Council and Scientific Advisory Panel, Westmead Institute for Cancer Research . He was an Editorial Board member of Viral Immunology and Microbes and Infection.

Dr DO Willenborg served as a member of the International Advisory Board, International Society of Neuroimmunology; he was an Editorial Board member, Journal of Neuroimmunology and a Board Member, ACT Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Division of Molecular Medicine

Dr NG Ardlie is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Sydney and served as a member of the Elective Term Committee and the Haematology Block Committee of the Canberra Clinical School. He also served on the Funds Advisory Committee for The Canberra Region Medical Foundation Limited. He is a member of the Australian Steering Committee for tracking medical pedigrees with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, and a member of the Oncology Executive Group at The Canberra Hospital

Dr RT Baker was a member of the Board of Directors of Genome Conference Inc

Professor P Board was a Member of the scientific advisory committee of the International Society for the study of Xenobiotics, a Member of the Factor XIII sub committee of the International Society for Thrombosis and Haemostasis, an international advisor for the Royal Golden Jubliee PhD project Thailand, Editorial Advisor for the Biochemical Journal and an External Assessor for promotions - Universiti Putra Malaysia

Dr B Charlton was the Coordinator of Clinical Studies for the National Health Sciences Centre.

Dr S Easteal is the Editor of Molecular Biology and Evolution. He served on the Advisory Committee of the NH&MRC Social Psychiatry Research Unit

Professor C Goodnow served on the Editorial Boards of The Journal of Experimental Medicine, Immunological Reviews, Current Biology, and Genome Biology. In 1999, Prof Goodnow served the NH&MRC on the steering committee for the Medical Genome Research Initiative, and served the ARC in a Strategic Planning Workshop on Genomics and Gene Technologies. He was a member of the Scientific Advisory Boards of the Australian Genome Research Facility and of Illumina, Inc, and of the Appointments and Promotions Committee of the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute.

Dr P McCullagh has continued to serve as President of the National Brain Injury Foundation. He has been a member of the Australian Health Ethics Committee. He has continued to act as an honorary medical adviser to the Vietnam Veterans' Association of Australia, Legacy and the Returned and Services League of Australia.

Dr C Simeonovic is a member of the Editorial Board of Cell Transplantation, a member of the Local Organising Committee for the International Congress the Pancreas and Islet Transplant Association, Sydney and a co-organiser, Postgraduate Course in Immunology (sponsored by the Transplantation Society of Australia and New Zealand), Canberra.

Division of Neuroscience

Dr JM Bekkers was a member of council for the Australian Neuroscience Society and a consultant for Axon Instruments Inc, Foster City, California, USA

Professor DR Curtis continued as Chairman of the University's Howard Florey Fellowship Committee, as a member of the Faulding Florey Medal Award Committee and of the Panel of Advisors of the National Institute of Forensic Science Australia

Professor IA Hendry was a science advisor on the board of the Wenkart Foundation. He was a member of the John James Memorial Ethics Committee and a member of the editorial boards of Journal of Neuroscience Research and International Journal of Developmental Neuroscience.

Dr CE Hill was a Member of the NHMRC Regional Grant Interviewing Committee in Brisbane, and a member of the NHMRC Training Awards Committee. She was an ACT representative for Australian and New Zealand Microcirculation Society

Professor SJ Redman was on the Editorial Boards of Journal of Neurophysiology, Synapse, Neuroscience, Journal of Neuroscience Methods, NeuroReport, Trends in Neuroscience, Journal of Computational Neuroscience, European Journal of Neuroscience, Journal of Clinical Neuroscience and Clinical & Experimental Pharmacology & Physiology. He was on the interviewing committee for the New Zealand Health Research Council. He was on the Council of the Australian Academy of Science and was a Member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Prince of Wales Medical Research Institute
