Academics from the John Curtin School of Medical Research reviewed grants and manuscripts, were involved in thesis examinations, served as consultants, and gave guest and invited lectures and media interviews. Other service, in 2000, to outside organisations appears below:

Prof GL Ada		was Chairman of the Vaccine Working Group, National Centre in HIV Epidemiology and Clinical Research (NCHECR), Sydney; member of the Australian Influenza Vaccine Committee; member of the Programme Advisory Committee and Programme Executive Committee of the Australian HIV Vaccine Consortium ( Director, Professor David Cooper, Head of NCHECR); scientific patron of the Austin Research Institute, Melbourne; acted as a referee for manuscripts submitted to Adis International Ltd., New Zealand.
Dr S Bain		Member of the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee to the ACT Government ACT Representative on the Executive of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Laboratory Animal Science
Dr R Baker		served as a Director and Vice-President of Genome Conference Inc; as a Director of the Australian Society for Medical Research; on the organising committee for ComBio Conference, Canberra, 2001; and as an expert consultant to the Human Gene Nomenclature Committee, London.
Dr JM Bekkers		was a member of council for the Australian Neuroscience Society and a consultant for Axon Instruments Inc, Foster City, California, USA
Prof RV Blanden		served as a member of the Editorial Boards of Immunology and Cell Biology, and the Asia-Pacific Journal of Biotechnology; chair of the Research Advisory Committee of the National Centre in HIV Virology Research; the ANU representative on the Board of the CRC for Pest Animal Control.
Dr P Cooper		served as Public Officer for the Australian Cancer Society and the Clinical Oncological Society of Australia (until July); acted as a Consultant for ANUTECH.
Prof DR Curtis		continued as Chairman of the University’s Howard Florey Fellowship Committee, as a member of the Faulding Florey Medal Award Committee and of the Panel of Advisors of the National Institute of Forensic Science Australia
Prof AF Dulhunty		was a member of council for the Australian Physiological and Pharmacological Society and RGIC for The National Heart Foundation
Prof S Easteal		is the Editor of Molecular Biology and Evolution. He served on the Advisory Committee of the NH&MRC Social Psychiatry Research Unit
Dr P Foster		associate editor, Pharmacology and Therapeutics; member of the executive committee of the International Eosinophil Society; and member of working group for the basic science section of the International Eosinophil Meeting, Banf, 2001.
Dr C Freeman		member of the local organising committee for the 2001 Matrix Biology conference, Canberra.
Prof PW Gage		was a member of the Editorial Committee of Journal of Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology, and the Scientific Board of the Motor Neurone Disease Research Institute of Australia. He has also been elected President of the Australian Physiological and Pharmacological Society.
Prof C Goodnow		is a member Australian Society for Immunology, a member American Association of Immunologists and a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He is a member of a number of advisory boards including; Appointments and Promotions Committee, Walter and Eliza Hall Institute; Scientific Advisory Board, Australian Genome Research Facility and the Scientific Advisory Board, Illumina, Inc, San Diego; Scientific Advisory Board, Genome Institute of the Novark's Foundation, San Diego. He is on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Experimental Medicine, Immunological Reviews, International Immunology, current Biology, and Genome Biology
Dr J Gready		was convenor and symposium organizer of the Australian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Bioinformatics Special Interest Group.
Prof IA Hendry		is a science advisor on the board of the Wenkart Foundation. He is a member of the John James Memorial Ethics Committee and a member of the editorial boards of Journal of Neuroscience Research and International Journal of Developmental Neuroscience. He is an assessor for the National Health and Medical Research Council, Australian Research Council, Medical Research Council (NZ), and National Science Foundation (USA)
Dr CE Hill		is a member of the NHMRC Training Awards Committee. She is an ACT representative for Australian and New Zealand Microcirculation Society

Dr P Jeffrey		was a member of the Australia Science Festival Advisory Council and of the Vice Chancellor's Reference Group.
Dr K Matthaei		was a consultant for the Australian Quarantine Inspection Service and a member of the ANU Equity Diversity Consultative Group.
Dr P McCullagh		has continued to serve as President of the National Brain Injury. He has been appointed to the NHMRC Working Party on the Persistent Vegetative State. He has continued to act as an honorary medical adviser to the Vietnam Veterans' Association of Australia, Legacy and the Returned and Services League of Australia.
Prof C Parish		acted as the Editor-in-Chief of Immunology and Cell Biology and served on the Medical Research Advisory Committee of the Australian Cancer Research Foundation.
Prof IA Ramshaw		member Australian Drug Evaluation Sub-Committee, ACT Science and Technology Council and Scientific Advisory Panel Westmead Institute for Cancer Research . Editorial Board member, Viral Immunology , and Microbes and Infection.
Prof SJ Redman		is on the Editorial Boards of Journal of Neurophysiology, Synapse, Neuroscience, Journal of Neuroscience Methods, Neuroreport, Trends in Neuroscience, Journal of Computational Neuroscience, European Journal of Neuroscience, Journal of Clinical Neuroscience and Clinical & Experimental Pharmacology & Physiology.
