Academic Appointments
In the Institute of Advanced Studies, academic staff carry the titles of professor, senior fellow, fellow, research fellow and postdoctoral fellow. Vacancies are normally advertised in Australia and overseas. Appointment may be for a specified fixed term, or a standard appointment (no end date). Fractional appointments may be available. There is provision for appointment of staff on secondment from other institutions for a fixed period in some circumstances.

· not less than $95,645 per annum
Senior Fellow (Academic Level D)
· $74,716 - $84,497 per annum
Fellow (Academic Level C)
· $62,407 - $71,641 per annum
Research Fellow (Academic Level B)
· $51,330 - $60,562 per annum
Postdoctoral Fellow (Academic Level A)
· $42,446 - $48,867 per annum
General conditions
Appointment as research fellow (fixed-term) is normally for three
years initially, and may be extended to a maximum of five years.
Appointment as postdoctoral fellow is normally for a period of three
years.
A clinical loading of $15,924 per annum is paid to a medically qualified
full-time professor, senior fellow, fellow or research fellow undertaking
patient care. For qualified staff not having responsibility for
patient care the medical loading is $7,973 per annum.
Assistance with fares and removal expenses to Canberra is normally
provided for persons appointed from outside Canberra.
Superannuation benefits are available for appointees eligible to
contribute. Approval may be given to members of the academic staff
to undertake programs of studies away from the University.
